Between Mid – November and February, the AMERICAN AMBITION travels south to North Carolina to target the elusive Giant Bluefin Tuna.
This species of tuna grow to enormous size, some topping the 1600 lb. mark. They are the most prized tablefare in Japan and other eastern markets for their sushi quality meat bringing up to $100/lb. dependi ng on freshness and quality.
Giant Bluefin Tuna give the angler and crew the fight of a lifetime, requiring the largest and heaviest of tackle to even have a chance at bringing them boat side. Anyone who has been lucky enough to catch one of these elusive beasts can be proud of an accomplishment held by only a select few.
While hunting these giants, we call the Morehead City Yacht Basin Our Home. The Yacht Basin is the premiere marina in the Cape Lookout area. It’s location, only a few hundred feet off the ICW and less than 5 mile to the tuna grounds, enable us to get to fishing within minutes of leaving the dock. There are several restaurants and shops within walking distance, and all the recommended accommodations are within three miles of the marina. Also, with the historic Morehead City and Beaufort, NC waterfronts just minutes away by taxi or car, there is plenty to do and see during non-fishing days.
